THE ARCHIE ALLEYNE SCHOLARSHIP & BURSARY FUND

The Archie Alleyne Mentorship Program which is affiliated with the Evolution of Jazz Productions was developed to prepare students for their careers as professional musicians. As well, an award from the Archie Alleyne Scholarship & Bursary Fund is offered to applicants in recognition of their achievements and to assist them in their musical education. It is open to students up to the age of 25 who are enrolled in a jazz program, are in full-time attendance at a music school, and who maintain academic excellence and contribute to their community in an active manner

The Archie Alleyne Scholarship Fund is under the umbrella of The Brandon Street Community Development Foundation

Scholarship Fund Recipients

Aaron Seunarine, aged 18 in 2007.

Aaron has taken conservatory percussion lessons, grade 2 theory, grade 10 snare, and grade 8 for timpanai and marimba.
Recipient of Archie Alleyne Bursary August 2006.

Graduated from Fletcher Meadow Secondary School June 2007.

Admitted to Humber College Bachelor of Arts, Music Major program September 2007.

Awarded Archie Alleyne Scholarship annually since September 2007.

Ongoing member of the Evolution of Jazz Ensemble.

Featured at the Muhtadi International Drum Festival 2005 - 2007. 
 

 

Norbert Botos, aged 13 in 2007

Norbert’s instructor at Humber College Community Music Program has stated that Norbert “is an extremely gifted young man…with a bright future in front of him as a young drummer…and for a twelve year old his capabilities are unbelievable”. He is learning to understand the connection between the written page and what he hears, and has been graded “A” for creativity and originality. He is currently studying drum kit independence, triplets/phrasing, polyrhythms, eight note playing, latin ideas, soloing concepts, basic reading.

Recipient of Archie Alleyne Scholarship annually since February 2007.

Nominated as “Rising Young Star” by the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival Committee, August 2007.

Substitute for Archie Alleyne in a trio format at an ongoing brunch engagement at The Stonegrill, Summer 2007.

Wanda Akwokwo Tynes, aged 14 in 2007

Wanda has been playing guitar, studying at Cabbagetown Community Arts Centre. She has been performing with her family band, singing and dancing since the age of 6.

Enrolled in Humber College Community Music Program, starting private lessons in September 2007.

Temima Akwete Tynes, aged 14 in 2007

Temima has been playing bass guitar and studying at Cabaggetown Community Arts Centre. She has been performing with her family band, singing and dancing since that age of 6.

Recipient of Archie Alleyne Scholarship September 2007.

Enrolled in Humber College Community Music Program, starting private lessons in September 2007.
