1994, Black Canadian Performing Arts Company (Blackarts)
was created to consolidate a variety of projects being
developed and produced by Archie Alleyne and Jay Jackson.
Blackarts is a performing arts company based in Toronto,
working in music and theatre dedicated to developing new
works and producing from the repertoire of the cultures
developed by Black North Americans. Blackarts is here to:
• ensure
the continued vitality of these important cultures
• develop new artists and allow established artists to continue to work
in their cultures, and

SHAKURA S'AIDA, Toronto's First Lady of Blues, JACKIE RICHARDSON

Production, STRUTTIN’. Some Mo' Black Men Productions
in collaboration with The Evolution Of Jazz and the Archie
Alleyne Mentorship Program presented chapter three of music,
dance and song reminiscent of the ever famous Harlem Cotton
Club. The evening introduced the talents of students who
attended the Humber College jazz programs. These students
were part of The Evolution Of Jazz, who performed for the
Port Hope Jazz Festival in 2003 and received a standing
ovation at both performances.
